Sperm Recognize “Brothers,” Team Up for Speed

Sperm cluster When it comes to strength in numbers, this has got to be one of the best examples yet. In a recent study by Heidi Fisher, (evolutionary geneticist) and colleuges from Havard university into the reproductive behaviour among promiscious mouse species, it was found that Sperm cells Recognize “Brothers,” and actually Team Up for Speed.  Why this happens is yet to be understood however, one theory suggests protein signatures recognition by sperm cells from the same individual.

Surprisingly enough, clustering of the cells allows for the added advantage of faster movement to the egg cell but only lasts until the cluster meets an egg when the brotherly love is lost in the cells fight to fertilize the egg cell.
